Discovering Your True Identity in Christ

Faith Sunday, 24 September 2024

Life is full of Jordans—those obstacles that seem insurmountable, separating us from the promises of God. But what if I told you that the promised land isn't just a far-off destination? What if it's something believers can already claim because they are in Christ? The question then becomes: Are you living the abundant life Jesus came to give, or are you still circling the wilderness?

Crossing Your Jordan

When God instructed Joshua to "arise and cross this Jordan," He was calling the Israelites to take a step of faith into their inheritance. The promised land was already theirs by covenant, but they had to take action to possess it. For believers, this principle is the same: Jesus has already given us abundant life, as stated in John 10:10—“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Abundant Life Defined

Abundant life isn’t merely a spiritual concept; it’s holistic. It means thriving spiritually, emotionally, physically, and even financially. Poverty, sickness, weariness, and stagnation are not part of God’s plan for you. The abundant life is about experiencing God’s blessings in every area of your life and letting that overflow bless others.

Arise and Go

The command is clear: “Arise and go.” To arise means to stand up, pay attention, and prepare for action. God is calling you to move—emotionally, spiritually, and physically. Staying in the same place, whether it’s a mindset, a habit, or a fear, only leads to stagnation. The Israelites wandered for 40 years, circling the wilderness because they refused to trust and obey God. Are you circling too?

Overcoming the “What Ifs”

When you decide to arise and go, doubt often creeps in. “What if it doesn’t work? What if I fail? What if I’m rejected?” These what-ifs can paralyze you, but remember: God is greater than any fear or doubt. He is the “I AM” who lives inside you, empowering you to succeed.

Walking in Vulnerability

Obedience requires vulnerability. It means trusting God with the unknown and being willing to look beyond your own strength. God wants you to be open to His leading, just as He was vulnerable when He gave His Son for you. Vulnerability is the posture of faith that allows God to work through you.

Your Call to Action

Today, God is calling you to arise and cross your Jordan. Will you take that step of faith? Will you trust Him enough to move forward despite the doubts and fears?
